In Service Teacher Training
A teacher can never truly teach unless he is still learning himself. A lamp can never light another lamp unless it continues it burn its own flame
—Ravindra Nath Tegore.
Teaching is no doubt a noble and missionary profession to groom and nurture a child and develop him as a valuable and worthy human being. This task is certainly not everybody’s cup of tea. Before becoming a teacher one has to go through a comprehensive pre service teacher training so as to understand the complexities of child psychology and the teaching learning process. But the pre service training is not sufficient for all the times throughout the job. With the passage of time changes occur in all walks of life and with all these the needs and ways of learning of a child also change. It is being recognized that education is a lifelong process and in addition to pre service training periodic in service teacher training is also necessary to all the in service teachers. It is essential to update the them time and again through short terms in service training courses and programmes.

From the last two decades in service teacher training are being imparted to build the capacity of the teachers in understanding the pedagogical concerns, curriculum, child centered approach, joyful learning, activity based teaching, evaluation systems and many more aspects of education at different levels. Programmes like DPEP, SSA, RMSA and now ISSE have done a lot in this field.
